I'm a percussionist living in Athens, OH.
I received my BM in performance from Centenary College of Louisiana in 2007 and I'm currently applying to graduate schools.
My main interest is in new music. Specifically the kind being produced by such groups/ensembles as Bang on a Can, Alarm Will Sound, So Percussion and Eighth Blackbird.
I’ve been completely in love with Martin Bresnick’s Grace: for Two Marimbas and Orchestra since hearing the Robert Van Sice recording of it a few years ago.
I had not been able to find a piano reduction for the piece and gave up thinking it would be one of those pieces that’s “too good” to have one, but apparently one was created this year. Thanks to Brad Meyer posting his recording of it on YouTube, I was able to track down the parts and they will, hopefully, arrive soon (“custom print jobs” can take up to 6 weeks!!).
I’ve got another percussionist ready to perform it and a pianist on stand by. I haven’t been this excited about learning a piece in a long time… plus it’s about time I put another concerto in my repertoire.
Here’s a teaser of the Ohio University Percussion Ensemble performing Dong-Wook Park’s Contrast. This work combines a traditional Korean percussion duo (performing on Janggo, Buk, Kkwaenggwari and Jing) with a westren percussion quintet
Be sure to check out their PASIC performance Wednesday at 1:00pm (they kick off the session that Percussion Group Cincinnati performs on).
